The 26th Regiment of
North Carolina Troops (NCT) is a Historical Civil War reenactment unit with a goal of
preserving the memory of the men and women who participated in this war, and
acting as an educational source for anyone interested in the Civil War and its
time period. We have more than 50 active members on the rolls and are a family
oriented organization with members from both western and eastern Washington. Our
members can participate in the Military (Infantry), Medical, Field Musicians,
Civilian, or the VMI Cadet corps.
The 26th NCT is an authentic recreation of the original 26th
NC, first commanded by NC Governor Zebulon Vance. The 26th won fame at
Gettysburg for suffering the highest number of casualties of any regiment on
either side, and for making one of the furthest Confederate advances into the
Union lines during the Picket-Pettigrew-Trimble assault on the third day.
We authentically recreate battles and encampments, stage
living history events, participate in parades, and give lectures and
presentations to school groups throughout the state. While primarily a
Confederate unit some of our members do portray Federal soldiers from time to
time to help bolster the Union ranks when they are low in numbers and to
"get a feel for life on the other side."
